Here's my version of Ray Wilson's WSG soung generator (aka: weird wacky zany odd frequency generator). I've built seven of these so far. You'll find the schematic and instructions on Ray's site, but part of the game is you have to figure out your own layout & case. You can have a look on the site how other people have sorted out the cirquit, but it's the most fun to do it yourself of course. I figured out my layout on a general-purpose pcb, so I could squeeze it a bit smaller. The case is thick cardboard, which might not sound too strong, but it seems to be quite rugged, the first ones I made have already survived quite a lot of road-wear, plane trips in cargo etc. I solder the pots straight onto the board which makes it quite strong. I Added a trim pot on the regular output to balance the output levels a bit. Also try out different stuff on the diode, it seems to me it works both ways round (?) I think I accidentally put one in the wrong way and it sounded different, but worked. I'll test this the next time I make one... I also added a plug for a 9V DC transformer. In these pictures there's also an LED, to make it easier to tell whether it's on or off, but it's not a good addition, because then you don't get the power-off racket anymore. I guess the LED drains it out... (if you don't know what "power-off racket" means you should build one of these as soon as possible and find out!). So anyway, the LED will have to go.

UPDATE::
hey, just finished #7. I tested the diode... It seems to work pretty much the same way either way around... hmm... but wait, then I tried it with an LED and not only does it work the same, but the LED also lights up and blinks to the rate of the zany LFO frequency, and it doesn't mess up the power-off racket! killer!

UPDATE::: 10.05.08
pöllötulkki a.k.a. ransu sent me his wsg. he wants a bigger+better power switch, so he can work it better. the box was in b-a-d shape... two years of wear and rock+roll had nearly crushed this machine.
his unit is one of the two original ones I made the first time, so I don't want it to die... so it was time to make a real solid box.

I found a good plastic case and a killer-good switch, everything fit inside the box, very tight.

other things: changed the wacky-switch for a better one, the old one was already almost broken. changed the output so there's only one output-jack, and a switch to select from odd to regular. this also needs a trim for volume on the regular side, to level them out. and wired the output-jack so that when there's no plug connected power is off, so you can't forget to switch off the power. battery saver!
s so, scroll down for photos!
